In the last blog, we touched upon steps toward inner peace. I’d like to take it a ‘step’ further and build on setting simple boundaries and seeking positive outlets for ourselves.
Setting Simple Boundaries
Setting personal boundaries is a very important aspect in taking care of ourselves and in building strong and healthy relationships.
Here’s 4 helpful tips to promote a healthy and happy life...
1. Alone Time
Schedule alone time for yourself routinely to recoup from the day-to-day craziness that happens in our lives. It’s important to have time to relax and unwind and reflect as to what’s going on in your life. I know it’s easier said than done because we all get pulled in different directions but if you can manage to find time for yourself, it’ll help in the long run.
2. Space
Create space from negativity. Constant exposure to negativity is very tiring. Try to allow yourself to get a “break” from consuming too much media outlets like tv or social media. Drink a coffee or tea outside, listen to calming music or read a book.
3. Honesty
Be upfront and honest about your feelings within yourself, relationships and friendships. If you are feeling hurt or need to vent be open in a respectful manner. It’ll take a load off your mind.
4. Compromise
Compromise when necessary but expect compromise in return. Sometimes things need to happen and you need to make time for others. Set realistic expectations and make it work.
Now that we’ve learned to set simple boundaries, let’s transition to seeking positive outlets for ourselves.
Seeking Positive Outlets
Luckily finding healthy outlets is easier than you might think! Here are 6 tips to help get us there.
1. Eat Healthy
One of the most overheard “healthy lifestyle” tips but one of the most important. Getting on the right meal plan or diet or trying to eat healthy can be difficult but not impossible. On a personal note, I began my goal to eating healthy two months ago and I’ve lost 10-15 pounds and feel so much better. 🙌
“The direct impact you will feel once you start eating healthy will give your body and mind a tremendous boost in energy and revitalization.“
In a future blog, I’ll collaborate with an aspiring Registered Dietitian who happens to be my younger brother and get his insight and advice, more to come on this. Stay tuned.
2. Exercise
Just like eating healthy, excercising or being more active will fuel your body in a positive way. There are so many ways to be more active in our daily life and if you find something you enjoy, that’s even better. Remember, exercising can be fun and you’ll feel much better about yourselvef for doing it. So, I challenge you to take a walk, do yoga or pilates, workout from home, join a gym, whatever it is, push yourself to exercise. No pain, no gain.
3. Sleep
Sleep is vital to our daily recovery. Try to get 7-8 hours/night. Physicians say sleep plays an important role in your physical health. Sleep allows your brain to recharge, your cells to repair and your body to release important hormones. Ongoing sleep deficiency can affect your health in the long run. So everyone, get some sleep!
4. Think Positive
Start each day on a positive note and end each day on a high note, think about something you did or encountered that was positive. Focus on your blessings and try to reframe situations. I like to listen to inspirational and uplifting music.
5. Give more
Strive to help someone in need, I am fortunate with my job to help those who suffer from terminal illnesses everyday and support families along the way. Think of how you can help someone in need and you’ll feel much better about yourself. Verbalize thankfulness and appreciation, we cross paths with so many people in our everyday lives and its important to remember to acknowledge someone’s good intentions and appreciate when someone does something nice for us.
6. Love
Embrace supportive and healthy relationships and wean unhealthy ones. At the end of the day, love for one another is all we have, “love thy neighbor as thy loveself”. Love can get us through the darkest of times and fulfill our hearts with light.
