2020 has not been your typical year, in fact, it’s been anything but normal. In its entirety it hasn’t felt like a year, rather, one long ‘groundhog day‘, no matter what move we make the same results take fruition. In short, it’s been a year of woes and unprecedented terror.
Yet, it’s more important than ever to stay connected. According to experts, we, humans need connection to feel well human, without, we lose ourselves and our connection with the world around us.
”According to experts, humans need connection and it’s more important now than ever.”
Flash back to March; this was the month where our way of life took a massive hit. We soon found out how quickly our way of living could change, and it was scary. Flash forward to December; one of the true magical times of year, and the world may be even be more scary.
In the midst of all that has happened this year, in one of the worst and deadliest pandemics we've experienced and hopefully will ever experience in our lifetimes, there has been so much good thats come out of it.
We've bore witness to the countless front-line workers putting themselves in the trenches day in and day out where many others were forced to retreat back home to stay safe. We’ve seen our restaurants/bars shut down or have limitations which affected business, grocery stores and gas stations stay open 24 hours a day so we can survive and get to where we need to go. We’ve seen our gyms and many other businesses close, re-open, close, re-open, it’s overwhelming to say the least. Yet, we worked collectively and will continue working together to get through because, that’s what we have to do to survive.
Personally, 2020 has been one of the best years and most memorable for my family; I started a new job after losing one in the same year, my middle brother got married, youngest brother graduated college, I got engaged to a beautiful and strong woman who has a wonderful son, my father celebrated his retirement and my mother has witnessed three of her kids milestones in one year. That’s a lot to be thankful for and I’m sure there are many other families who had much more to be thankful for this year.
I was reminded of this very special gift we call, Life, after watching Its ‘A Wonderful Life’, following me contracting COVID-19 in December. That day, admittedly rocked my world. I soon realized that now I’m one of many who has been afflicted. So yes, this Christmas will be different, it will be in isolation like so many of us are doing in different ways, with very few family and friends around us. But it doesn’t mean that everything has to be entirely different, in today’s world there are so many ways to stay connected and be close to the ones we love.
Hark, I believe there is a light at the end of tunnel, even if it appears dim. I’d like to take a quote from one of my all-time favorite Christmas tales, “Remember, no man is a failure who has friends. Thanks for the wings. Love, Clarence”

This may seem like a failed year, but I believe this quote still rings true today, as long as we have one another, that’s really all that matters. I believe each of us have felt just like George Bailey, ready to throw the towel and give up when things get rough until we realize what we will lose. In the end, I think this year made each one of us appreciate the little things, just a little bit more!
