We've talked about overcoming our pain and finding our anchors to help us through life's journey. Today, I'd like to focus on finding inner peace and steps that may help build towards a stronger inner self. The question, how do we find inner peace and happiness? I believe every person desires to find these inner feelings in our lives but we don’t know where to start or build it back up when it’s been damaged.
As some may know, I’ve gone through a lot of personal struggles in the last year and a half as I mentioned in the “About My Site” section and I'm trying to use my struggles for personal growth. I've always turned to writing as my way of coping and venting but I realize it’s takes more than just to acknowledge ones lacking inner peace and happiness but to do something about it.
What I‘ve learned is that personal growth connects with so many areas in our inner toolbox; Mental, Physical and Spiritual. All three intricately shape our mind, our body and soul. Here are essential tools to start your journey:
Set your positive focus dial.
As hard as it may be (and trust me I struggle with this everyday), focus on the present in a positive manner and try not to let whatever happened in the past negatively affect your present, positive approach. Better outcomes will come using this step and when we our presented with different types of situations or challenges that arise, we'll consider our highest expectation we set for ourselves, use our best judgement and prevail.
"The mind is one of the most powerful weapons, when you fill it with positive thoughts, your life will start to change"
Realize your weaknesses in order to transform into strengths
Everyone has weakness's or character defects their not proud of, that's part of being a human being. However, understanding what our weakness's are and learning how to combat them is a powerful tool to add to your toolbox. So, how do we do this? Right now, I am doing this very step, I'm choosing to focus my attention to my inner voices instead of choosing not to hear, I'm not ignoring my doubts, confusion, fears, angers, insecurities and frustrations, I'm facing them head on because eventually they will stop. Those worries strangle and consume our minds, they do nothing useful but hold us back. Those voices are prevalent when something we don't know how to deal with passes through our minds. By focusing or observing those inner voices, you will restrict their power and channel more positive thinking to enter your mind freely.
Stay on the now
Distractions will happen, when they do, shift your mind back to "the now". You've set your positive dial in, realized your weakness's and learned how to observe and stop those voices from further damaging your psyche. Staying on "the now" just means find healthy positive outlets to further better yourself and your healthy lifestyle. In my next blog, we'll focus on those positive outlets and how we can maintain a 'healthy lifestyle'.
