Self-Care is vital for our healthy lifestyle journey and our own self discovery. The most powerful relationship you will ever have is the relationship with yourself.
“Self-Caring for your body, mind, and spirit is your greatest and grandest responsibility. It's about listening to the needs of your soul and honoring them.”
Taking time to take care of yourself is vital to survival. Self-Care is about enhancing your physical body, mental mindset and spiritual outlook. Majority of my blog posts have elements of self-care, for example "Redefining Your Strength" focuses on physical self-care needs, "Self-Reflection is Key to a Balanced Lifestyle" or "Setting Boundaries & Seeking Positive Outlets" focuses on mental self-care and lastly "How Faith Can Impact Health & Wellness" directly correlates to spiritual self-care. So what else can we do to better practice self-care?
Lucky for you I have some steps to help get us there and the great thing is, self-care is meant for all ages.
Physical Self-Care
Be more active in your daily life. This may not mean physically joining a gym or being the next yoga guru but its the simple things that can make a difference like going for a walk, play with your pet outside, clean and reorganize your room, take a bath or take up a new hobby like hiking or community volunteering.
Mental Self-Care
Our mindset is a powerful weapon, it can make or break us. We all get boggled down in our lives from everything that were doing or encountering and it gets overwhelming right? Take a moment to Pause. Stop. and Think... Try reading a book or be open to reading, learn a new skill like photography, gardening, drawing or decorating, a DIY (Do It Yourself) Project, coloring can be very therapeutic (any Barnes & Noble will have you covered) and try to turn off your phone every once in a while, you'll feel a weight lifted off of your shoulders.
Emotional Self-Care
The ability to identify, understand and comprehend your feelings, conscious, inner state and intellect. Emotional support is something we all need for ourselves, start to let go of the negativity in your life, talk with a friend or family member about where your at, journal and collect your thoughts, write down a list of things you're grateful for and try new things like meditation or listen to soothing music to help relax, unwind and reflect.
It all comes down to good habits at the end of the day. If you're reading this, start right now to focus on your self-care, don't wait till tomorrow. Focus on one thing that may help you physically, mentally or emotionally and do it. Then tomorrow, start to work on one or two more things, in weeks, months and years you'll find you will be much healthier body, mind and soul and that's what it's all about everybody.
We get one life on this earth, make every day count and always strive to be the best YOU. You owe yourself the love that you freely give others. Its OK to make mistakes, to have bad days, to be less than perfect, to do what's best for you and to be yourself!
